Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Dr. Andrey Valentinovich Mishin grew up in Moscow, Russia, where he lived from 1966-1993. He earned degrees in engineering from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (National Research Nuclear University MEPhI) between 1985 and 1993, during which he held numerous engineering positions. His graduation diploma was in electro-physics vacuum systems (equivalent to MS degree). Upon earning a Candidate of Sciences in charged particle accelerators—a PhD-equivalent degree—he relocated to the United States in 1993 and subsequently found success as the vice president of research and development at Schonberg Research Corporation (SRC) for five years. In 1998, SRC assets were acquired by American Science and Engineering, Inc (AS&E). He then excelled as the general manager of the AS&E High Energy Systems (HES) Division (former SRC) and vice president of HES at AS&E, Inc. from 1998 to 2008.
Dr. Mishin, wielding expertise, connections, and fluency in Russian throughout his early career, was asked by the CEO and colleagues at AS&E to develop a business for them in the countries of Russia and Ukraine. This led to his departure from AS&E and the founding of Thought One LLC, other LLCs in 2008 and a further Russian daughter company, OOO Science Technique Security, which later used a brand ROSSCAN, distributor for AS&E, which he transferred to a group of investors. In 2011, he founded RADMEDEX LLC, and after completion of his work as AS&E sales representative and distributor, RADMEDEX LLC focused on designing a new linear accelerator for Mobetron, a radiation therapy system designed in 1994 for Intraop Medical Corporation by SRC, with Andrey’s direct participation.
In 2016, Dr. Mishin excelled as the senior director of Varian Medical Systems and then Varex Imaging Corporation—initially a division of Varian Medical that became an independent company and is now the leading global producer of various imaging X-ray systems and components – linear accelerators, X-ray tubes, detectors, etc. for industrial and medical applications—from 2017 to 2022. Since then, he has advanced as the vice president of research and development for high-energy sources and accelerator beam centerline (ABC) production. In this capacity, he built the ABC production line “from scratch” and now he oversees its operation, delivering over 100 units/year. Throughout his career, he’s invented, built, and implemented numerous advancements across operational machines, holds 11 patents with several applications in the works, and has contributed to more than 50 publications in his field.
In addition, Dr. Mishin has previously been active as the founder of ADMIT Corp. and a board member of SRC, Inc. He also served as chairman for the Santa Clara County/Moscow Sister County Commission from 1996 to 2004 and he is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He’s also a member of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing. Lastly, in 2024 he helped his wife Aleksandra (Sasha) to establish a home bakery Sasha Mishin’s Tastees LLC (www.sashamtastees.com), which they own and operate. Looking toward the future, he hopes to work for another 10 years and help Varex Imaging grow.

Andrey Valentinovich Mishin, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. Dr. Mishin is a seasoned professional in high-energy linear accelerators who has been an integral part of Varex Imaging Corporation (formerly a division of Varian Medical Systems) in Salt Lake City since 2016. With over 40 years of experience in the industry, he has made significant contributions to developing and producing advanced medical and industrial systems. As the company’s vice president for research and development of energy sources, Dr. Mishin has been instrumental in overseeing the construction and operation of production lines for Varex Imaging, a leading global producer of high-energy linear accelerators.
Affiliated with Varex since 2017, Dr. Mishin began as a senior director. He also worked as a senior director at Varian Medical Systems, a company that produced an essential component for the electron beam accelerator, in 2016. Before joining Varex, Dr. Mishin founded RADMEDEX LLC in 2011, serving as managing partner and president until 2016. He also established Thought One LLC, the exclusive sales representative of American Science and Engineering (AS&E) Inc., in 2008, leading the company as its managing partner and president until its sale in 2015.
Dr. Mishin’s earlier career included serving in leadership positions as the vice president of high energy systems at AS&E from 1998 to 2008 and as the vice president of research and development at Schonberg Research Corporation between 1993 and 1998.
Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Dr. Mishin received a Candidate of Technical Sciences degree from the National Research Nuclear University, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, equivalent to a Doctor of Philosophy, in 1992. In 2002, he furthered his education with coursework in management of high-tech companies at Stanford University.
Active in his professional community, Dr. Mishin is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In addition to his work-related activity, he has been actively involved in civic organizations. Most notably, he was the chair of the Santa Clara County/Region of Moscow, Russia Sister County Commission, from 1996 to 2004, arranging delegations between Moscow and Santa Clara County.
Dr. Mishin’s expertise spans microwave devices used in linear accelerators, design and build radiation therapy units, and complete systems for screening cargo. His notable achievements include creating a top-notch team, training each member and successfully implementing a highly effective production line among his employees. Dr. Mishin has sold three companies and overseen the sale of several others.
Dr. Mishin has always been driven by a passion for innovation and excellence. His dedication to his field remains unwavering as he continues to contribute to developing cutting-edge technologies that benefit both the medical and industrial sectors.
